PAT Jenkins and Brinley Doyle were in scintillating form as Portland United got back to winning ways in the Wessex League

The Blues travelled to Blackfield & Langley on Saturday and ran out 3-1 winners over their Hampshire rivals.

It ends a run games that has seen the club pick up just one point from eight matches over a nearly two month period.

Blues striker Jenkins was leading the line in the absence of the club's top goal scorer Greg Borthwick and helped himself to two second half goals.

Midfielder Doyle made it 3-0 after setting up Jenkins second as the club raced into a commanding lead in the second period.

The hosts were only able to find a consolation goal late in the game through Gedeon Matonga

Blues managers Josh Hickman and Shaun Bessant watched their side weather the storm in the first half, as Blackfield tried to take advantage of the wind at their backs.

However, chances from Dyllan Roocroft, Keegan Kelly and Ashton Palmier went begging with the hosts unable to put the favourable wind to good use.

It was an impressive second half display from the Blues though, as they came out quickly with Jenkins netting in the 52nd minute.

George Stuttle's brilliant run on the left wing allowed him to drill the ball across the box where Jenkins was hand to score.

Moments later Jacob Coombs rattled the crossbar from long range as Portland almost instantly doubled their tally.

With 66 minutes on the clock, the net bulged again.

This time Doyle played a wonderful reverse pass to Jenkins who turned his defender and found the bottom corner to double the Blues lead.

Doyle got on the scoresheet himself ten minutes from time as he tapped in the rebound after Jenkins had hit the bar.

As the game draw to a conclusion, Blackfield's Matonga found the net but it was too little too late for the home side.

After the game Blues joint manager Josh Hickman spoke about finally securing three points and praised jenkins' performance.

He said: "It was a long period without a win but we fully deserved it.

"We were good on the day, and to be fair our performances have been good teh last few weeks, we have just had to be patient but we got nothing less than we deserved.

"We were extremely happy with Pat. He has had to be patient and we have had to be patient with him.

"We have spent a lot of time helping him and he has finally got his reward with two good goals.

"He has been so unluck this season and could have had more goals already, but he has taken his goals well and is now showing signs of being a top striker."

The win means Portland sit 10th in the Wessex League Premier and next face relegation threatened Downton next on Saturday, November 30.
