Weymouth’s unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday afternoon following a 1-0 loss away to Hornchurch.
Mark Molesley named four changes ti the starting eleven that beat Weston-super-Mare 3-2 last Saturday, with Calvin Brooks, Jake McCarthy, Andreas Robinson and Jaiden Bartolo replacing Jones, Josh McQuoid, Charlie Rowan and Ward.
After eight minutes the Terras had their first opportunity through Andy Robinson with his fizzing effort forcing the Hornchurch goalkeeper to make a save.
Myles Weston started strong for Hornchurch and looked like the dangerman. He crossed the ball into Liam Nash, but his attempt after eight minutes went wide.
Tom Wraight grabbed the game’s only goal after 16 minutes. Scannell cleared away a Weymouth corner and picked out Weston, who found Wraight with a searching cross which was headed beyond the reach of Will Buse.
After 23 minutes Jaiden Bartolo dazzled on the left flank beating defenders before winning a corner, which was cleared away.
The Terras came close to drawing the game level after 26 minutes. Brandon Goodship took on a shot from distance, but the effort smacked against the crossbar and out of play.
Poor defending from the Terras gifted an opportunity to Hornchurch shortly after the half hour mark. A poor back pass to the keeper saw Femi Akinwande pounce on the opportunity, but his effort cleared the crossbar.
The home side were looking to extend their lead in the early stages of their second half through some fine work from Weston. His ball into area was scrambled away by the Terras defence.
Both sides were contending with wet and windy conditions and were having to adjust their play early in the second half.
A frantic two minutes saw a shot from Nash cleared off the line by Calvin Brooks, before an acrobatic save from Mason Terry denied Terras captain Tom Bearwish the chance at an equaliser.
Brooks was at the centre of attention again after 63 minutes, but his glancing header was well saved by Terry.
He had another chance three minutes later but spurned the opportunity again.
Moments later, Hornchurch had another chance to double the score. Wright’s ball found Nash in the box, who did well to volley the shot on target, but Buse was there to make the save.
Robinson went down for treatment after 74 minutes and was subsequently substituted a short time later for Jordan Maguire-Drew.
The home side almost doubled their lead with three minutes left on the clock when Weston’s ball in was headed narrowly wide by Yusuff.
Five minutes of added time were not enough for the Terras as they travelled back to Dorset without any points. They now sit 22nd in the National League South.
Terras XI: Buse, Brooks, Jordan, Thompson, Hamblin, Bearwish, McCarthy, Robinson, O’Connell, Bartolo, Goodship. Subs: Linton, Greenwood, Maguire-Drew, McQuoid, Ward.
