Magpies manager Tom Killick praised the home support as his side came back from a goal down twice on Saturday.

A total of 807 fans attended the 2-2 clash between Dorchester and league-leaders Merthyr Town at the Avenue in the Southern League South.

Speaking after the game, Killick said: “There was a good atmosphere today, the crowd were exceptional in their support in backing us, and it would be nice to replicate those numbers going forward.”

The Martyrs took the lead after 19 minutes, working the ball around well in midfield. Despite the pressure, Dorchester snatched an equaliser to make it level at the break. Luke Pardoe’s pass across the face of goal was met by the oncoming Matt Buse who dispatched the chance with no fuss.

The Martyrs re-established their lead with a second goal two minutes into the second half, but Buse drew the sides level again after 69 minutes. Substitute Wes Fogden lashed in a cross with Buse arriving late to smash in the chance, resulting in an eruption of cheers at the Avenue.

Speaking about Buse’s performance, Killick said: “He played a part in the build up to both his goals. He’s not had an amazing starting run in the team as there’s a lot of competition, but he’s really starting to show what he’s capable of.”

Overall, Killick said: “Merthyr are a very attractive side, they caused us a lot of problems, but based on this quality of opposition, I’m reasonably satisfied on our performance.”

The result saw Merthyr remain in first place in the Southern League Premier South Division, with the Magpies flying in fifth place. Dorchester will welcome Taunton Town on Saturday afternoon.
