A SWDNL match report round-up of fixtures from Thursday, November 14, written by Karen Matthews.
Waikiki 13 vs Evolve 14
Evolve started strong with C Lulu Gale making accurate passes and space throughout the court and WD Bex Hedditch sticking close to her player. Waikiki’s GD Hannah Rees worked hard with a long reach over Evolve’s shooters.
Evolve were strong again in the second quarter with WA Jas Mather receiving quick balls through the court. Waikiki fought back with great shooting from their GS Charlotte Hanger to close the gap although mid court interceptions from Evolve’s WA Jas Mather helped her team hold the lead Evolve’s players were strategically placed throughout the court to deliver the ball to their shooters which enabled their GS Summer Donoghue to score some good goals. Waikiki continued to fight back with some good passes and shots.
Waikiki’s GA Hayley Rooks made some good long shots which allowed her team to start the quarter strongly. Waikiki’s defence duo of GD Hannah Rees and GK Leah Stockley worked hard to turnover the ball allowing their shooters to score. A close match saw Evolve win by one goal.
Buglers 28 vs Gungho Wildcats 16
The game started strong with great defending from both teams. Buglers take the lead with some amazing shooting from their GA Kat Frampton and great interceptions from their C Alice Glover. Wildcats started strong putting intense pressure on Buglers but Buglers didn’t let this pressure affect their accurate shooting from GS Kat Frampton and GA Emily England enabling their team to extend the lead. Buglers started strong with multiple interceptions from their WD Cat Kelly. Wildcats fought back with some amazing goals from their GS Frankie Eversden.
Amazing interceptions from Wildcats GK Brooke Batchelor and C Freya Joy helped close the gap. However it was Buglers that remained strong and took the win.
WJNC Warriors 23 vs Zest 20
Warriors started off strong with good goals from their GS Rubi Moss. Zest fight back to move the ball up the court to their GS Emma Mills to score. Both teams fight hard for possession with Zest’s GK Lyndsey Pollard and GD Vikki Cosgrove working well together resulting in turnovers.
Scores are tight with Warriors C Amelia Robinson working hard to move the ball down the court. Zest’s GA Annabel Bartlett and GS Emma Mills working well in the circle however Warriors’ GK Mathilde Burdett was quick to pick up any rebounds.
Zest’s C Meegan Ling working hard mid court as both teams were strong with turnovers of the ball. Warriors’ GA Willow Charlton winning rebounds and scoring goals with both teams working hard throughout the game. Warriors extend their lead with good fast play from both teams.
Warriors’ WA Emily Rockett worked hard to help her shooters extend the lead with GA Willow Charlton making some accurate shots. Zest’s GD Vikki Cosgrove worked hard in defence against Warriors shooters. Zest converted the ball down the court but interceptions from Warriors’ GK Mathilde Burdett ensured her team took the win.
The Veterans Hub 28 vs McCarthy Stone 13
Veterans got off to a strong start with excellent connections through the court and accurate shooting. McCarthy made a few errors and struggled to pass the ball to their shooters which enabled Veterans to take the lead Veterans continued their strong play although this was disrupted by McCarthy’s GD Gilly Woodsford and GK Rachel Boyd’s strong defensive partnership. McCarthy fought back with some great goals but Veterans remained ahead Both teams worked hard for the goals with Veterans making changes to their players bringing on AJ Williams.
McCarthy’s GD Gilly Woodsford played a strong role intercepting balls to provide more opportunities for McCarthy’s shooters but it was Veterans that increased their lead. Veterans made another change with Poppy Andrews moving to WA and Lauren Osgood moving to GD. Veteran’s defence kept the pressure on McCarthy denying them the opportunity to score and it was Veterans who won the match by a comfortable margin
