In their latest game in the Southern Counties league, Swanage & Wareham hosted near neighbours Dorchester, writes Ron Butler.
The game turned out to be a bit one sided in the end, but the visitors never gave up. From the start Swans received three penalties on the trot, and with the last one the ball was spun out to winger Sanaila Nasokidi who crossed the try line half way out.
Matt Spencer added the extras. Dorchester made ground but an interception by full back George Crouch who was tackled close to the try line but managed to get the ball to winger Olly Dillon who went in at the corner. The score was 12pts – nil after 14 minutes.
From the restart Dorchester kicked ahead and the right winger picked the ball up and scored in the corner. It was 12pts-5pts after 20 minutes. The game was quite even for a while, but a break by Nasokidi from half way but was caught close to the line, passed to scrum half Ollie Peters who scored under the posts.
Spencer converted (19 – 5) after 28 minutes. Swans continued to attack and from a scrum close to the visitors posts scrum half Ollie Peters dummied his way over for his second try. Spencer added the extras. The score was 26 – 5 after 36 minutes.
From the restart full back George Crouch caught the ball and with a dazzling run weaved his way passed all of the Dorchester defence to go clear to score under the posts. Spencer converted to leave the Half Time score Swans 33pts Dorchester 5pts.
Early in the second half Dorchester gave away a couple of penalties that put Swans in the 22, and from a catch/drive move wing forward Aiseia Kaitu claimed the try. Spencer converted 40pts – 5pts after 45 minutes. Swans transgressed giving the visitors some ground but Swans easily cleared their lines and another three quarters move by Swans had winger Nasokidi going in for his second try. Replacement kicker Tom Munns added the extras. It was 47pts -5pts after 55 minutes.
A catch or drive move by Swans after 60 minutes had wing forward Kian Salina going over for a try out wide, and from a scrum the ball was passed all along Swans backs to George Crouch to score his second try. Munns added the conversion 59pts – 5pts after 72 minutes.
In the last few minutes George Crouch managed to to score his hat trick of tries taking the score to 66pts – 5pts, before Dorchester scored a consolation try in the last minute giving the final score of Swans 66pts to Dorchester 10pts.
With no game next week Dorchester can hope to clear some of their injury problems before facing welcoming fellow strugglers Corsham to Surcouf Park.
