A round up of netball fixtures from Thursday, October 24 in the South and West Dorset Netball League, writes Karen Matthews.
Gungho Wildcats 19
McCarthy Stone 30
McCarthy started strong with their GD Rachel Boyd making quick interceptions. Wildcats made some passing mistakes which gave McCarthy the opportunity to take the early lead.
Wildcats WA Freya Joy made accurate passes into her shooters as the other end of the court their GD Brooke Batchelor picking up loose balls on court. McCarthy’s WD Becky Dechow creating space to support her team and making numerous interceptions. Wildcats C Angie Sparshott also making great passes.
Close marking from Wildcats made things difficult for McCarthy although their WA Emily Ford and GA Molly Farr worked well together to get the ball to post. Wildcats continued strongly although McCarthy extended their lead.
Wilcats GA Francesca Eversden and McCarthy’s GS Lauren Oats both making some amazing shots from all around the court. McCarthy’s great defence partnership of GD Gilly Woodsford and GK Rachel Boyd working well together to defend their circle adding to their teams win.
The Waterloo 47
Warmer B 19
Waterloo took an early lead although good shooting from Warmer’s GS Sam Rees saw a few goals scored. Warmer’s WD Nancy Robinson was strong in defence as were Waterloo’s intercepting within the circle.
Waterloo’s WA Sophie Gilford made some good passes into the shooters and WD Beth Mear making good space and interceptions to help her team. Warmer’s Katy White made good centre pass interceptions and Waterloo’s GK Linda Carrow defending well in the circle
Waterloo’s WD Beth Mear continued to make good interceptions but Warmer fought back with some great goals despite Waterloo’s strong defence and great shots from their GA Charlotte Cross
Waterloo continued to extend their lead with great shots from GS Amy Hallet. Warmer fought back with great marking and space but it was Waterloo that took the win.
Warmer A 11
The Veterans Hub 49
An energic first quarter saw Veterans C Caroline Goode working the ball through the court which helped her team take the lead. The fast pace continued and Warmer demonstrated excellent defending in the circle with GK Steph Nation relentless in her efforts.
A dynamic opening saw Warmer make a tactical change to their C displaying great short sharp passes down the court. However Veterans continued to extend their lead with great accuracy from their GS Rachel Scarff
Pressure was on in the third quarter with Warmer’s GA making some great shots despite Veterans strong defence. The game was fast pace and Veterans GS Rachel Scarff continued to find the post from all over the circle
Fierce and energetic play from both teams with Warmer relentless with interceptions but despite their best efforts it was Veterans who kept their lead for the win
Waikiki 28
First Fit Windows 30
Waikiki took an early lead although First Fit worked the ball down the court with their WA Lisa White passing the ball to the shooters. Waikiki won some rebounds and worked the ball back to their shooters. First Fit’s GS Ella Stanton making some great shots. Both teams applying the pressure
Both teams start strong with First Fit’s GD Charlotte Newman getting a lot of rebounds and WA Charlotte Hanger and C Sophie Marquis feeding the ball to the shooters. Fast play from both teams saw this a close quarter.
Waikiki kept up the pressure turning over the ball but First Fit worked the ball well through court to their shooters who made some good shots. Despite First Fit’s strong defence Waikiki made some good goals.
Waikiki started with quick passing and their GA Hayley Rooks making some good shots. Pressure was on as the scores were close and both teams continued to mark well but it was First Fit that took the win.
