WEYMOUTH 1

Thompson 83

FARNBOROUGH 1

Holmes 62

HIGH-flying Farnborough were denied victory at the Bob Lucas after Jordon Thompson's late headed earned Weymouth a point.

The league leaders travelled to Dorset having won eight of their 13 National League South games this season, however, Thompson's late equaliser knocked them off their perch.

The draw may not have been enough to lift Weymouth off the bottom, but it now means they are unbeaten in three games, their longest run without defeat this season.

Mark Molesley made just one change from the 1-1 draw with Bath in midweek as Keelan O'Connell came in for Euan Pollock.

Christie Ward remained up front with Jaiden Bartolo with his suspension for a sending off midweek yet to kick in.

Both sides were able to carve out a few opportunities in what was an even first half on the south coast.

O'Connell tried his luck from range but could only find the gloves of Turner Jack who immediately launched the ball forward for Ricky Holmes.

The Boro forward drove from the halfway line but was denied by Will Buse who stood firm in the Weymouth goal

Charlie Rowan watched a header sail wide after connecting with Ben Greenwood's free kick and Boro's Edon Pruti also glanced a header wide of the post as both sides probed for an opener in the opening 20 minutes.

Not long into the second half and Weymouth thought they had opened the scoring through Bartolo, however, the 18-year-old was denied by the assistant's flag.

  1. Boro would squeeze ahead just afte rthe hour mark after some neat footwork from Joe Haigh him to set up Holmes who cut inside and let fly a thunderbolt of a strike past Buse.

As the game entered its final 20 minutes, Buse stood tall to deny Millar Matthews-Lewis and a Boro second.

Weymouth pushed for an equaliser and saw chances come and go from Bartolo and Brooks who both header over the bar.

Buse was again on hand to keep the score at 1-0 as the game entered the final ten minutes as he held long distance strike from Matthews-Lewis

Three minutes later Weymouth were level as Thompson  rose highest to head home his first goal for the club from a corner.

Both teams pushed for a winner with chances falling to both sides.

Pollock blasted over the bar from the edge of the box whilst Holmes was again denied by Buse who had put in another fine performance allowing both teams to share the points.
