Members of the Weymouth and Portland Cruising Association have been treated to a talk about the island of the Azores.
On Tuesday Weymouth and Portland Cruising Association (WPCA) club member, Andrew Care, gave an interesting talk on a voyage from La Palma in the Canary Islands to the Azores when he was crewing on board a Nordhavn 63 motor yacht.
Having met the boat’s owner in La Rochelle where he took his own boat, a Nordhavn 43, he was invited on board for the trip.
Andrew not only described his trip on the water but also talked with enthusiasm about the islands of the Azores.
Next week, Mike Walshaw will give a talk entitled ‘The ‘Earl of Pembroke’, the ‘Endeavour’, Captain James Cook, and the ‘Unknown Southern Lands'.
The illustrated talk will cover the building of the Earl of Pembroke and subsequent voyages including Captain James Cook’s adventures.
With a personal connection to James Cook and the Endeavour this is sure to be a fascinating evening.
All local sailors are welcome to come along to Castle Cove Sailing Club for the talk which will commence at 8.00 p.m. with the bar opening at 7.30 p.m
