WEYMOUTH 1

Rowan 83

CHESHAM UNITED 1

Esan 12

CHARLIE Rowan rescued a point for Weymouth as the spoils were shared at the Bob Lucas on Saturday in the National League South.

Samson Esan had put Chesham United in front in the opening 15 minutes, but a late Rowan strike salvaged a point for Mark Molesley's side.

In a game that lacked chances, the Terras almost snatched a win with several opportunities late into the tie.

However, there would be no winner and and the Terras claimed their fifth point of the season.

There was a first league start for attacking midfielder Christie Ward, and the Wycombe Wonderer's loanee was joined by his Chairboys' teammate Jaiden Bartolo.

The 18-year-old Gibraltan international joined on loan prior to kick off.

Weymouth were playing their first game back at home after three games on the road but it did not start well.

Chesham's Esan was on hand to spoil the party after some dogged work from Mitchell Weiss to win the ball, who set his teammate up, to curl an effort in the the far corner.

Weymouth's first real effort saw Keelan O'Connell tried his luck with a long range header after 20 minutes, before Bartolo forced a superb double save from Ben Goode in the Chesham goal after half an hour.

The 18-year-old striker then had a couple more chances  five minutes from half time but was unable to break through and find an equaliser.

After the break, Nathan Minhas had a great chance to make it two, but Will Buse continued his fine form in goal for the Terras and parried the ball away to keep it at 1-0.

There were not too many clear cut chances to speak of for the remainder of the half, but as the final ten minutes approached, Weymouth's perseverance paid off.

In the 83rd minute, a free kick swung in from the right hand side bounced around the Chesham box with Goode making two point blank saves, however, the Chesham keeper could not stop a third effort as Rowan bundled the ball home to level the scores.

Rowan came close to winning the game with two more chances before Ben Greenwood forced Goode into another save as Weymouth pushed for all three points.

O'Connell also came close with an effort deep into stoppage time, but the forward saw his shot sail over the bar.

The draw leaves Weymouth at the bottom of the table but it now means that they have lost just once in their last four league games.

There will be little time for Molesley and his squad to ponder about this result as they travel to Bath on Tuesday night as the games keep coming thick and fast.
