MARK Molesley has hailed Christie Ward's first start for the club as 'positive' and his hoping the young star can help the club get scoring.

Ward joined the club from Wycombe in early October after ending a loan with National League side Braintree.

He made his debut for the Terras as a second half substitute in the 1-0 defeat for Enfield, but made his full debut against Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend.

The playmaker came close to scoring his first goal in that FA Cup tie, but fired narrowly wide after linking up well with Ezio Touray.

The Wareham-born attacking midfielder is set be deployed as a number ten under Molesley, but can play in a variety of positions in the midfield.

Ward already has a connection with the club, after his older brother Calum played in goal at the Bob Lucas during the 2019/20 season, making 34 appearances.

Speaking about Ward this week, Molesley said: "It was a really positive performance from him against Forest Green.

"He is no stranger to us either, he use to come down and watch his older brother Calum when he played for Weymouth, so he knows the area.

"Wycombe have brought him on leaps and bounds, he can play a few different positions, so he brings more strength and depth in those areas, but he is predominantly an attacking midfielder or number 10.

He added: "He hails not too far from Weymouth, so he is aware of the stature of the club."

Ward was snapped up by Wycombe from Wessex League side Brockenhurst in the summer of 2022 having caught the eye of the Chairboys' recruitment team for his creative displays on the south coast.

He made his debut for the League One side in a Papa Johns Trophy fixture against Peterborough later that year, before a spell on loan to Hungerford Town where he made 15 appearances and scoring twice in the National League South.

The now 20-year-old then made his EFL debut at Ipswich Town in April 2023, making a total of three appearances in the Football League to date.

He has also spent time on loan with Slough Town and Banbury United in 2023/24 in the National League South and North respectively.

Ward has also made two appearances for Braintree in the NAtional League this season.

In total, the attacking midfielder has made 40 appearances across the EFL, EFL Trophy, and National League.

The young playmaker was not named in the matchday squad for the Dorset Senior Cup win over Portland in Midweek, but could be in line to make his first league start when Chesham visit the Bob Lucas later today.
