PORTLAND UNITED 0

WEYMOUTH 3

Robinson 45, Touray 83, Pollock 87

Weymouth progressed through to the quarter finals of the Dorset Senior Cup after a hard fought win over local rivals Portland United.

On a wet evening at the Camp & Satherley, the Blues battled hard against a strong Terras outfit but were eventually outclassed by the National League South side.

An Andy Robinson goal just before the break gave Mark Molesey's side a slender lead at the end of a half in which Weymouth had most of the ball, with Portland looking to hit them on the break.

Weymouth sealed the victory with two late goals courtesy of Ezio Touray and Euan Pollock to set up a trip to Wimborne Town in the next round.

The Terras made several changes from the weekend's FA Cup defeat with Forest Green Rovers with Brooklyn Genesini, Harry Jones, Leo Hamblin, Josh McQuoid and Pollock all starting.

Portland made a few changes themselves with Ben Holloway and Archie Woolford returning to the starting line up, and a first start for new signing Jamie Hosking, who arrived from Baffins Milton Rovers earlier in the day.

The Blues new signing was straight into the action as well and found himself through on goal but was denied by Weymouth keeper Will Buse.

The first twenty minutes saw Weymouth dominate possession as Portland tried to hit their rivals on the counter attack.

Portland keeper Harrison Bruton was called into action to deny Weymouth an opener in the 24th minute when he denied the Terras, tipping the ball onto the bar after a shot came in from the edge of the box.

Portland were giving as good as they got and some great play from Woolford and Pat Jenkins allowed the striker to find his way into the box, but was unable to get his shot away.

Then on the cusp of of half time, Robinson was left unmarked at the back post after a ball into the box and made no mistake as he slotted the ball past Bruton to give the away side a slender half time lead.

After the break, chances were few and far between as Portland looked for an equaliser to take the game to a penalty shoot out.

George Stuttle blocked an effort off the line and had a header of his own fly over the bar, but with seven minutes left on the clock, the Blues conceded a penalty and all hopes of a cup upset were put to bed.

Touray stepped up to rifle home from the spot and then five minutes later Pollock wrapped up proceedings by adding a third.
