In a classic game of two halves Portland United threw away a two goal lead as they lost 4-2 to Hamble Club.

Portland were the much better team in the first and goals from Freddie Beale and Greg Borthwick put them in a commanding position at the break.

However, four second half goals from Hamble saw the Blues suffer back-to-back defeats in the Wessex League Premier.

It didn't rake long for Portland to open the scoring as Beale smashed home after Archie Woolford's low cross from the left in the second minute.

Portland were getting a lot of joy down that side, with Jack Delves delivering for Borthwick who sent an effort from a tight angle just wide.

With almost twenty minutes played, Harrison Bruton made a brilliant save from point blank range from a Hamble corner.

The Blues keeper was then called into action again in the 35th minute as he denied a long range strike from a Hamble player.

A minute later though, Borthwick would double the hosts lead as he netted his 14th goal of the season and put Portland in control.

A long ball over the top from Delves allowed the in form striker to lift the ball over the on rushing Hamble keeper and run the ball into the net.

Hamble came out in the second half with real intent though, and after an hour, they pulled one back as the ball was bundled into the net from a corner by Braydon Douglas.

Hamble were on a mission and greatly improved after a poor first half and Harry Hamilton equalised in the 72nd minute with the momentum now with the away side.

Seven minutes later, and the comeback was complete, as a deflected shot from James Johnson on the edge of the box wrong footed Bruton.

With Portland throwing men forward in search of an equaliser, Hamble grabbed a fourth on the break through Will Gange.

The defeat drops the Blues down to ninth in the table, but are still within four points of the play off spots after 12 games.
