FOREST GREEN ROVERS 2

Sercombe 40, Doidge 90+5

WEYMOUTH 0

WEYMOUTH battled hard against National League side Forest Green Rovers but were unable to avoid crashing out of the FA Cup.

Liam Sercombe's first half goal put the hosts ahead just before the break with Ezio Touray and Christie Ward unable to take their chances in the first half.

In a second half that lacked too many clear cut chances for either team, Weymouth work hard and defended well, but a Christian Doidge strike in added time sealed the win for Forest Green who go through to the first round proper.

Ben Greenwood made his first start after recovering from injury and Ward made his full debut having joined from Wycombe on loan.

Touray and Corey Jordan were the other changes from the defeat with Enfield last weekend.

Weymouth sat deep in a 5-4-1 formation as Forest Green dominated possession early on, with Charlie Rowan in a deeper role alongside Jordan and Jordon Thompson, as Moseley choose to deploy three centre backs.

Knowles then whipped in a dangerous cross that Harry Cardwell looked destined to get on the end of, but Will Buse was on hand to make a good save from close range.

Weymouth grew into the half and after 25 minutes a series of set pieces threatened Forest Green's goal as they started to venture forward more.

Molesley's side almost took the lead through Ward who jinked his way through the Forest Green defence but his shot flashed across the face of goal.

Despite all of Weymouth's hard work, Charlie McCann drove into the box and slipped in Sercombe who poked the ball home to give Forest Green the lead five minutes before the break.

Buse was then called into action moments later to deny a second Forest Green goal from Kyle McAllister.

Touray came close to an equaliser on the cusp of half time as he strode into the box but saw his shot well saved from Searle.

Not long after the restart, Tom Bearwish forced a good save from Searle as he fired in from the edge of the box.

But the second half lacked any real clear cut chances from either side and the home crowd started to grow frustrated as Weymouth defended well.

Jordan came close with a decent strike from 25 yards that went just wide as the Terras probed for a way back into the tie.

Touray had arguably the Terras best second half chance when he met Genesini's cross from the right, but the striker headed wide as the game entered the final ten minutes

Forest Green would guarantee their spot in Monday night's draw as Doidge was played in by McCann and finished well past Buse deep into added time.
