Winter may be approaching, but some members of the Castle Cove Sailing Club are still out cruising.
While most club members have retired to the bar for the winter, Martyn and Helen Bateman in their Hunter Legend yacht, L’Entropist, have extended their cruising season by visiting ports in France including a visit to Ile de Groix off southern Brittany.
Also still enjoying some cruising are Ann and Paul Simpson in their yacht, Jacana, who are exploring more of the Greek Islands before they lay the boat up for the winter.
Alison and Chris Forrest in their yacht, Muskrat, are continuing their journey up the west coast of Italy and are currently in the Isle of Elba but their sailing has not been as relaxing as hoped.
Unfortunately, they have been experiencing spectacular thunder and lightning storms.
However the trips ashore for sightseeing have made up for some uncomfortable sailing.
Next Tuesday, October 15, geologist Richard Edmonds will be talking about Weymouth’s place in the Jurassic Coast.
Richard grew up fossil hunting in the seaside town of Lyme Regis, right on the Jurassic Coast. Now, as earth science manager for the World Heritage site, Richard works to conserve the coast and encourage science tourism in the area.
All local sailors are welcome to come along to Castle Cove Sailing Club for what is sure to be a fascinating talk. The talk will start at 8.00 p.m. with the bar open from 7.30 p.m.
