Footballers in Sherborne looking to emulate the likes of Lioness stars Lauren Kemp and Chloe Kelly in Sherborne have been given a boost towards achieving their dream.
Thanks to a new sports fund backed by former England cricketer Darren Gough, Sherborne Town Ladies FC have received some much needed equipment for the training ground.
The team based at the Consol Stadium, in Raleigh Grove play in the South West Regional Women’s Football League and will benefit greatly from the new equipment.
Sports equipment including two large training goals, two small training goals plus cones, bibs and mannequins have been purchased thanks to the fund. The club has also purchased a target net to help players practise their shooting accuracy.
Sherborne Town Ladies FC secretary, Wesley Gullin, said: “We are delighted to have Gigaclear supporting us this season.
"The equipment they have supplied will help our staff deliver better sessions for players, as we strive to produce a more professional environment for them.
“The club has grown enormously since it formed in 2018, and we now have well over 150 women and girls that have a club they can be proud to play for.
"We are excited about where we can go with the support of a fantastic organisation like Gigaclear, and we look forward to working with them for seasons to come.”
The £100,000 Gigaclear Rural Sports Club Fund aims to support teams based in rural communities across the broadband company’s full fibre network, which spans 26 counties.
Fund ambassador Darren Gough added: “Since launching the fund, it has gone from strength to strength, providing valuable support where it is needed most.
"It’s great to see so much kit and equipment being sent out to rural sports clubs such as Sherborne Town Ladies.
"I believe it will help make a difference to players now and to the rural sports teams of the future.”
