DORCHESTER Town are through to the next round of the FA Trophy after a 5-4 win on penalties over Tiverton.

On a blustery and sunny day in Devon the two sides could not be separated after 90 minutes with the Magpies getting the better of their opponents in the shootout.

Magpies keeper Gerard Benfield was the hero after saving a penalty as the club put their name in the hat for Monday's first round proper draw.

Tom Killick made three changes from the Magpies last game against Chertsey Town with Ieuan Turner, Ollie Haste and Brendan Holmes all starting.

New signing Marcus Daws was amongst the substitutes but Jordan Ngalo was suspended and Will Spetch and Corby Moore were unavailable.

Dorchester got off to a lively start with Shaquille Gwengwe and Olaf Koszela both testing Zak Baker within the first 15 minutes.

Jack Dickson, who was captaining the side in Ngalo's absence, was also denied by the Tiverton keeper with his shot looking destined for the top corner.

With just over 20 minutes gone, Benfield was called into action and comfortably caught a header from Tiverton's Josh Jones before making a superb save from Joe Parker just minutes later.

Dorchester thought had been awarded a penalty just before the break after Baker brought down Gwengwe in the box, but after initially awarding the spot kick, the referee's assistant pointed out the ball had gone out of play in the build up and Tiverton were awarded a throw in.

After the break there were few opportunities from either side.

Jones came close again with a header from a corner for the home side and Wes Fogden fire wide for the visitors in the only real chances to speak of.

With the scores level at full time with neither side having broken the deadlock, the game went to penalties.

Koszela and Daws slotted home the Magpies' first two spot kicks before Luke Pardoe watched his penalty superbly saved by Baker.

Matt Buse put away Dorchester's next kick and then Benfield put in a brilliant save of his own to get Dorchester back into the shoot out.

Will Bragg and skipper Dickson calmly slotted home their penalties with Tiverton's Forkou missing the crucial penalty to send Dorchester through to the next round.

The draw for the first round will take place on Monday, October 7
