Weymouth and Portland Cruising Association is gearing up for a series of talks now that winter is on the way.
As members of the association start to lay up their boats for the winter, the WPCA’s winter talks programme began this week with a visit from local historian, Ian Brooke.
Ian served for many years in the Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service and he gave an interesting and informative account of the work done by the service.
Next week is a club social evening and members are encouraged to come along for a pint and a chat and the following Tuesday (October 15), geologist Richard Edmonds will be talking about Weymouth’s place in the Jurassic Coast.
Richard grew up fossil hunting in the seaside town of Lyme Regis, right on the Jurassic Coast.
Now, as earth science manager for the World Heritage site, Richard works to conserve the coast and encourage science tourism in the area.
All local sailors are welcome to come along to Castle Cove Sailing Club for what is sure to be a fascinating talk.
Despite winter approaching some club members sail throughout the winter on good days and anyone planning a day sail is encouraged to let others know when and where they are going so they can sail in company.
