Windsurfers who train on Portland will be competing in the IQFOIL European Championships from tomorrow.
The British Sailing Team’s windsurfers will be out in force in Cagliari, Italy, with six female athletes and five male athletes competing.
The Athletes, who all use the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy as a training base, will be taking part in the championships from Sunday, October 6 to Friday, October 11.
Team GB’s Paris 2024 windsurfer, and Portland resident Emma Wilson, will not be taking part as she continues to recover from her bronze medal exploits at the Games.
Fellow Olympian Sam Sills has also opted not to race, however, Wilson's training partner Islay Watson will be one to watch on the water in Cagliari, as will young Finn Hawkins after he was crowned under-23 world champion in August.
Hawkins won a bronze medal at the 2018 Youth Olympics and has been a regular feature on iQFOiL podiums ever since.
Pushing Hawkins hard will also be Matt Barton, and Alice Read will join up with the female fleet.
The iQFOiL European Championship is being hailed as the first major event of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.
