Golfers from Came Down Golf Club defeated local rivals Weymouth Golf Club to regain the Ridgeway Cup.
Teams from both clubs competed for the third time for the Ryder Cup style event played over 18 holes of matchplay.
On the front nine, teams played foursomes, with Weymouth flying out of the blocks to go ahead in the first two matches.
Weymouth club captain, Jim Sinclair, and his vice-captain Mark Humphries didn’t let up and secured the first points for their team with a 3 & 2 victory over Came Down captain, James Burleigh and Scratch Knockout winner Chris Skinner.
This was quickly followed up by the second Weymouth pairing of Neil Paul & Steve Robinson who beat David Constant and Jon Lake 4 & 3.
Seniors Captain Martin Aylett and his partner George Townsend battled well to overcome the 'two Lukes' - Maddison & Pritchett by 2 & 1, followed by a win for Scott Cameron and Phil Holsman over Asa Cardiff & Tony Chambers.
Ben Tyrrell and Adam Paul struggled against the consistency of Mark Whyte and Gary Walker and went down 3 & 2, but the closest match of the day, between Raj Lehal and Mike Harvey and Tony Stevens and Billy Richardson went all the way to the last hole, with the home pairing coming from behind to win the last and halve the match.
The foursome result left Weymouth leading 3½ to 2½ ahead of the four ball better ball (4BBB) matches.
In the 4BBB format the first two matches again followed a similar pattern, but this time there was nothing between the teams, with both matches all-square at the 16th.
Came Down won the 17th in the first match and then Chris Skinner produced an outstanding approach to the 18th which secured a two hole victory for himself and James Burleigh.
In the second match, Came Down snatched a victory after a titanic battle when John Lake secured a nett birdie after another fantastic shot into the green.
In the third match the 'two Luke’s' from Weymouth gained revenge for the front nine. They won the first three holes on the back nine, winning 4 & 3.
In matches four and five, both Came Down pairings went ahead early and stayed there.
Ben Tyrrell and Adam Paul found their form and closed out their match 4 & 3., with Scott Cameron and Phil Holsman producing the goods again.
Phil holed a monster putt on the 17th green to secured the point necessary for Came Down to regain the Ridgeway Cup.
As before, there was never anything between the two teams in the last match but Weymouth pair Tim Stevens and Billy Richardson turned the match around to gain the point.
With Came Down winning 4-4 inthe 4BBB format, they regained the trophy with the final overall score ending Came Down 6½ Weymouth 5½..
