Puddletown head into this weekend looking to extend their perfect start to the 2024/25 campaign when Bridport make the trip to Greenfields tomorrow.

For Bridport, they have opened their season with mixed results.

An opening day defeat at the hands of Weymouth was followed by a convincing victory over East Dorset Dockers when the team from Christchurch travelled to the Brewery Ground last weekend.

Bridport find themselves in 4th on five points, a bonus point victory behind Puddletown who sit second on 10 points.

Looking to follow on from last weekend's victory, Bridport will be looking to get their first victory at Greenfields since 2016 and hand Puddle their first defeat of the season.

Puddle coach Jacob Holt will have his resources replenished following the trip to Swans. Rhys Jenner returns to the squad following injury and the quartet of Bertie Hebburn Heath, James Elwood, Tom Yeatman and Alex Kley are all available following absences.

Both Byrne twins have sadly returned to their studies meaning they are now unavailable until the Christmas period and flanker Joe Malpas is also unavailable as he attends a stag do, the joys of amateur rugby.

Having made his debut away at Swans last week, prop Jordan Horncastle is excited to make his Greenfields debut this weekend.

He said: “I can’t wait to get on the pitch at Greenfields and to put on a good show for the old boys that come down and keep the clubs win streak going

“It was an honour to make my debut for Puddle last weekend and that was only the beginning. As we work as a team we will only get better, that win at Swans felt that bit better following them getting the better of us last season.”

With many key players returning to the backline coach Jacob Holt has some reserved optimism ahead of this weekend following last weekend's victory.

He said: “Proud is the word, following a trip away without 9 first choice players which will always make a team nervous. However, our young greenhorns rose to the occasion with some incredibly senior, seniority steadying the ship.

"However, dogs bark and the caravan still moves. We can only focus on ourselves. A big week of training and more selection issues with injuries and newcomers - Bridport will be chomping at the bit after their win. He who plays with the cat will find its claws and we know we have to keep improving and fighting to win games in the higher leagues.”

The game at Greenfields tomorrow kicks off at 3pm and the bar will be open from 2pm.
