A Dorchester school has been celebrating the Paralympic legacy through one of its students special family achievement
The Prince of Wales School Year Four pupil Paisley shared a remarkable moment with her classmates – her dad’s Paralympic Medal from the 1996 Atlanta Games.
Following the conclusion of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, Paisley brought the bronze medal to school, a powerful reminder of dedication and perseverance.
Paisley's father, Weymouth-born Mark Newton, a former pupil of Maiden Castle School, achieved bronze in the 4x100m relay at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics, a milestone that continues to inspire.
His story and success were celebrated by the whole school community.
Headteacher Mr Gary Spracklen said: "It’s an honour to have this connection to the Paralympics right here in our school.
"Mark’s achievement is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the incredible potential each of us carries.
"We are so proud of Paisley for sharing this with us and allowing our pupils to experience this piece of history first-hand."
Reflecting on her father’s achievement, Paisley expressed her pride: "I’m so proud of my Dad and happy to share his medal with my friends. It shows that with hard work, we can all do amazing things."
