Portland United played out a fairly uneventful draw with fellow Dorset side Christchurch in the Wessex League on Tuesday night.

Shaun Bessant and Josh Hickman were making their debut in the Camp and Satherley dugout for the first time since taking charge of the club.

The new management duo came into the game off the back of resilient 2-1 win away to US Portsmouth at the weekend and were pleased to welcome back several players to the squad.

There was not too much in the way of goal mouth action but Portland did create enough opportunities to have got more from the game.

Sixteen-year-old Tom Peach returned from illness whilst there were spots for Darren Husher, who returned from suspension and Joe Wickham on the bench.

The game started slowly with neither side managing to muster any real chances, with an early Christchurch corner sailing over everyone's head summing up the opening 15 minutes.

With twenty minutes on the click, the game livened up a little as Jack delves played in Jacob Coombs, bu t the forward;s touch took him wide and saw his shot well saved by Rodwell in the Christchurch goal.

Some good defending from Sam Gadsby then denied Christchurch an opportunity after a long ball over the top was well watched by the defender and won a goal kick for his efforts.

Thirty-six minutes in and Delves found himself on the end of a George Stuttle free kick and headed back across goal where Josh Camp was waiting but his header landed straight at Rodwell.

Just before the half time whistle a great touch from Camp allowed him to play in Freddie Beale out wide who cut back inside to shoot, but again Rodwell denied the Blues.

Early in the second half skipper Josh Williams played in Coombs but the forward's his effort was well saved at the near post.

Wickham made a welcome to return to the pitch coming on in the 58th minute as he replaced Peach.

Some lovely one touch football from the Blues saw Beale tries his luck from range only for a slight deflection off a Christchurch defender and go wide.

Another chance for the Blues came just after the hour mark as Williams met the ball in the box but directed his effort straight at the keeper

In the final minutes of the match Harrison Bruton pulled out two magnificent saves that denied the away side a late victory, tipping two efforts onto the bar.

With the clean sheet preserved both sides left with a point with Portland tenth in the league with nine points from seven games.
