WEYMOUTH 2

Brooks 56 Scrimshaw 82

Weymouth finally registered their first points of the season after a hard fought win away to Dorking Wanderers in the Vanarama National League South.

Calvin Brooks had spoken of the players needing to take responsibility for the club's current situation and true to his word, the midfielder obliged as he grabbed the games opening goal.

The points were secured in the final ten minutes thanks to new signing Jake Scrimshaw who came off the bench to wrap things up for Mark Molesley's side.

Dorking did pull one back through matt Briggs in added time leaving a nervy final few minutes for The Terras held on after more than 11 minutes of extra time.

but the home side left it too late to mount a comeback.

The win means Weymouth have now registered their first points for the season and end a run of seven straight defeats.

Billy Terrell's absence saw Gerard Benfield return between the sticks having been recalled from a loan with Dorchester.

Two new additions also featured on the bench for Mark Molesley's side with former Poole Town striker Jake Scrimshaw and defender Harry Jones joining up with the squad.

There was also a return to the starting line up for Josh McQuoid, however, Keelan O'Connell, Ben Greenwood, Malachi Linton and Brandon Goodship all remained sidelined for the trip to Dorking.

Dorking started the game with most of the possession and even had an early penalty shout waved away whilst a few half chances fell early doors for the home side.

Tom Bearwish then appeared to be clipped in the box, but the referee was not interested much to the frustration of the travelling away fans.

Brooks then set up Euan Pollock, but the forward's shot rattled the cross bar as the Terras unlucky streak in front of goal continued.

With half an hour played, Weymouth carved out another chance, this time Charlie Rowan let fly from just outside the box, forcing Harrison Foulkes into a save with the Dorking keeper almost spilling the ball into his own net.

Jordan Thompson then blocked a strike from a Dorking striker which went out for a corner, but Benfield was on hand to claim the subsequent delivery into the box.

In added time in the first half the home side had another chance as Niall McManus flashed a shot across the Terras goal but failed to trouble Benfield.

Despite Dorking having much of the ball in the first half, Molesely's side had been fairly untested as the teams went into the break.

Moments after the restart Maguire-Drew fired in a strike after cutting in off the wing before George Francomb let fly for the home, but his shot fly just over the bar.

Weymouth would take the lead though moments later thanks to Brooks who cut into the box and slipped the ball past Foulkes with almost an hour played.

Dorking almost found themselves level with twenty minutes left on the clock, but somehow the home side's shot was cleared off the line as Weymouth dug in as they looked to hold out for the three points.

The home side kept pushing for an equaliser, but Brooks was on hand to make a vital block to deny a Dorking forward.

Pollock then slipped Jones through but the substitutes shot was saved by Foulkes.

Jones was brought on for McQuoid as Molesley looked to preserve the away side's lead with the finish line and three points in sight.

As the game entered the final ten minutes, debutant Scrimshaw secured the points for Molesley's side after robbing one of Dorking centre backs of the ball and smashing his effort into the net.

Dorking would pull a goal back through Briggs five minutes into added time with a header from close range, but the home side ran out of time and Weymouth secured their first win of the season.

The result also lifts Weymouth off the bottom of the table, leapfrogging Enfield Town and St Albans and sit 22nd.

However, Salisbury in 21st remain five points clear of Molesley's side.
