Weymouth legend Calvin Brooks has said the club's players need to 'step up' after their poor start to the season.

The Terras have lost all seven of their Vanarama National league South games this season and sit dead last in the table as they prepare to face Dorking Wanderers today.

The midfielder was speaking after the defeat to Hampton & Richmond on Tuesday and admitted the players need to turn the club's fortunes around.

He said: "At the end of the day, the players have to take a lot of responsibility, I think the fans are aware and believe the players are giving absolutely everything.

"The fans know me well enough that I would not let people in the changing room come here for a free ride, that isn't the case at all, but we have to show more quality - it is as simple as that.

"This level is cut throat and we are getting punished for everything at the moment, we have to step over the white line and make a difference."

Brooks also took the time to praise the fans for their constant support and that it does not go unnoticed.

He added: "I thought the fans first and foremost were fantastic, especially the fans behind the goal, I heard them all game.

"I know it's been extremely frustrating, we had long spells without the ball and had to work hard to get the ball.

"But again it is the same as the last six or seven games, we haven't shown enough in the final third, the build up to get there and then when we do get there, there is not enough quality.

"It's time to really step up before it's too late"
