A new Jiu-Jitsu course for beginners is on its way to Weymouth.
Triton BJJ Weymouth is expanding its offering to local resident with the new course for beginners starting on Tuesday, September 10.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and is predominantly a ground-based martial art, using the principals of leverage, pressure, timing and control.
Unlike other martial arts where the primary focus is in your ability to strike an opponent, BJJ focuses on close contact grappling, using holds, application of chokes and joint manipulations.
The course will be part of a drive to promote healthier habits across the community having been a part of the local sport offering since the club’s creation in May last year.
Head instructor, Mark Stephenson said: “The success of the club has been outstanding over the past year with a range of beginners being integrated with our club members.
"However, we wanted to create a specific space for those new to the sport, learning at their own pace and having the chance to develop as a group.
"It is open to those over 16 years old, both men and women and we encourage even those with zero experience in combat sport to come a try.”
Those interested in trying Jiu-Jitsu or joining the beginner course, should visit tritonbjj.com or find them on social media.
