Weymouth Cricket Club firsts and seconds have both finished third in their leagues after final day wins for both sides in the Dorset Cricket League.
The club have capped off their 2024 Saturday season with a five wicket win in both the first and second matches on Saturday (August 31) to end the summer of cricket on a high note.
The firsts travelled to Compton House and came away with a full points victory, keeping their hosts to 163 all out and chasing them down in 31 overs.
Lloyd Beals spell of 2-17 with the ball was followed up by a score of 79 with the bat, while Neil Walton (3-30), Shafeek Urumancheri (2-26) and Cube Whyte (2-27) did the job with the ball.
Weymouth did waver at times in the chase, falling to 31-2 and then 88-4, but a spilled catch and a squandered run-out meant Compton House were unable to mount a comeback.
Connor Wills was calm as ever, hitting an unbeaten 37 and finished the match with a lofted drive to put the finishing touch on a well composed victory.
Whyte spoke to EchoSport following the victory.
He said: “The pitch looked like it was going to get lower and slower for the second innings.
"With the short boundaries and fast outfield it was important we started well with the ball which Lloyd did especially well.
“We really gained control through the middle overs with the pitch taking turn Shaf and myself were able to turn the screws picking up wickets to slow the run rate.
“While we had a couple of hiccups we were never in trouble thanks to Lloyd controlling the innings from one end and Connor coming in to finish them off.
“It was a great all round performance and a good way to sign off the 2024 season.”
Meanwhile in the seconds match, a spirited effort from Cheselbourne Cricket Club was overcome by the hosts, with fifties from Harry Mitchell and Evan Green guiding them home to their target of 173.
The twin victories in Round 18 means that both sides finish third in their respective competitions, County Division One and County Division Four.
Elsewhere across the divisions Premier One was won by Dorchester firsts, and Premier Two by Chalke Valley.
Marnhull topped Division One while Royal Challengers Sports Clubs first team won Division Two and Shillingstone won Division Three.
Blandford seconds won Division Four, Division Five was claimed by Rolex Cricket Club with Chalke Valley Lions winning Division six East and Shroton Division Six West.
