Portland United: 0
AFC Portchester: 3
Horncastle 26, Dufflin 64, Pennery 90+5
Portland United suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Camp and Satherley Stadium against AFC Portchester.
The visitors ran out 7-0 winners in their last game against Folland Sports, whilst the Blues were defeated 4-3 in a narrow defeat at home to Hamworthy Recreation FC.
Portchester fans were calling for a penalty early on when Ryan Pennery went over in the penalty area after attempting a dinked chip against keeper Harrison Bruton, but the referee saw nothing wrong.
The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute after the ball was lofted into the penalty area by Charlie Williamson. James Cowan played the ball across the face of the goal to see Jamie Horncastle bundle it in from yards out.
Blues players were linking up well, and carved out an opportunity after 34 minutes. Josh Camp’s looping ball fell to the feet of Pat Jenkins who fired a shot across the face of goal with the ball just flying wide of the post.
The pair combined well again with a minute to go before half time, this time Jenkins threaded the ball through to Camp. The effort on goal had little power on it and did not cause the visiting keeper any difficulties.
The Royals were claiming for a penalty again early into the second half after Pennery was challenged in the area, but again play was continued.
Portchester doubled their advantage after 64 minutes through some decent link up play between Pennery and Connor Dufflin. A one-two pass between the pair saw Dufflin net from outside the area.
The visitors had another effort to make it three after 79 minutes if not for a great save from Harrison Bruton.
With seven minutes Portland had a chance of their own to half the deficit. A long ball was met by Tennant who chested it down for Camp to take on a strike. The forward’s effort was blocked well by a defender a seen out of play.
The Blues were putting the pressure on the visitors and could have scored after 86 minutes. Substitute Jacob Coombs dashed down the wing to play in Beale. His strike was pushed away by the keeper but only as far as Tennant, who could not convert the rebound as the ball got stuck under his feet, firing wide of the goal.
Portchester found their third in the final of five minutes added time, tucked in from the left by Pennery after his first effort was deflected.
With that the game came to an end, and the result sees the Blues slip to twelfth place in the Velocity Wessex Football League after five games with five points. The visitors rose to second in the league with 12 points.
Attendance: 208
Blues XI: Bruton, Toms, Peach, Bessant, Holloway, Gadsby, Beale, Williams (Scott 80), Jenkins (Tennant 80), Camp, Delves (Coombs 68)
