Weymouth’s search for their first points this season continues as they suffered their sixth consecutive defeat in the league, with a 1-0 defeat to league leaders Slough Town at Arbour Park on Saturday afternoon.

Terras boss Mark Molesley made one change from Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Eastbourne Borough, bringing in Euan Pollock for the injured Brandon Goodship.

Weymouth started with urgency, and link up play between Pollock and Leo Hamblin needed to be dealt with by Scott Davies. Minutes later, Hamblin put in a crucial challenge to deny Gary Abisogun an opportunity.

The first real chance for either side fell to the home team after 14 minutes. Rebels midfielder John Gilbert’s free kick from the far side was swung in dangerously towards the area.

Leon Chambers-Parillion rose highest to meet the cross but his header was deflected wide.

Six minutes later, the Rebels were in again after Dan Bayliss’ searching ball found its way to John Ufuah after it deflected off a Terras defender. The forward took the chance on but his low strike was just wide of the near post.

Malachi Linton went down off the ball and was forced off with an injury after 34 minutes. He was replaced by Francis Amartey.

Slough put the ball in the back of the net after 39 minutes, but Terras players soon took in a sigh of relief as the linesman raised the offside flag.

Henry Ochieng’s ball into the penalty area looped into the back post, falling to Ufuah before being bundled in by Kweku Lucan. Both players were in the offside position.

Chambers-Parillion skipped past two Terras defenders before taking on a fizzing shot from range, which went wide.

On the cusp of half time, the Rebels had the chance of the game so far. The home side dispossessed the Terras, who were building up the play well, and countered effectively putting in a low cross at the back post which was met by Bayliss. A last ditch block saw the ball blaze over the cross bar.

Seven minutes into the second half Slough had a corner. Gilbert took the set piece, pinging a low ball into the path of Bayliss who flicks it towards goal. The chance was blocked by Robinson and behind for another corner.

Ezio Touray almost had a goal scoring opportunity when he latched onto a misplaced pass from Davies after 58 minutes. Goalkeeper Horlock came off his line to commit the foul, earning a yellow card in the process.

The resulting free kick was salvaged by Calvin Brooks, who found Hamblin, but his ball went graciously into the gloves of Horlock.

Weymouth were putting on the pressure and had another opportunity to grab the game’s opener after 64 minutes. Brooks cut into the inside from the right to find skipper Tom Bearwish. The midfielder shrugged off challenges to pick out a curling chance towards but it rose just over the cross bar.

The Rebels broke the deadlock after 68 minutes. Davies’ long searching ball was met by Jeanmal Prosper who cut inside and dragged a shot across the face of goal.

Charlie Rowan put in a block but the ball was bouncing around before Ufuah made no mistake yards from goal, rifling the ball into the roof of the net for his first of the season.

Brooklyn Geneseni was brought on for Rowan after 78 minutes as the Terras were searching for a leveller and their first points of the campaign.

Andreas Robinson was driving the ball forward for Weymouth with less than 10 minutes to go. Amartey picked out Geneseni, who cut inside to take on a shot before a defender cleared the ball and the immediate danger from the Terras.

Three minutes of added time were not enough for the Terras, as they continue to search for their first points of the season, remaining bottom of the National League South.
