Dorchester Sports are aiming for promotion after winning their opening three league games of the season.

Ashley James' side beat Cobham Sports 3-0 on Saturday (August 17) which the Sports manager has described as a 'perfect day'.

It follows on from wins against Balti Sports and Poole Borough, with the team second in the table, only goal difference separating them from Westland Sports.

Speaking to Echosport after the match, he said: "It's been a good weekend.

"Obviously we started well, getting the opening goal after a couple of minutes, but it was quite an even game and Cobham were a threat on the counter.

"In the second half they came out with a purpose but our second goal killed the game and we dominated from there.

"It was a good home performance and a good clean sheet against a good side - a perfect day."

With Sports starting the season so well, James says the team are looking to get promoted, but acknowledge it will be a difficult task.

He added: "The aim is to be pushing at the top and we want promotion to the Wessex League.

"We need to be in the in the top three or four to have a chance.

"It will be hard to stay there and we need to keep playing well.

"It's always been an ambition of ours but it has been tougher than we wanted, but if we are up there at Christmas we will apply for it.

"There are lots of teams in this league that want promotion so we will have to finish above them and see where we are at the end of the season."

Next up for Dorchester is a trip to Portland Reserves against another one of this year's strong starters.

The Blues are also unbeaten having won twice and drawn once so far this campaign and have scored four goals in each of their last two games, against Bridport Reserves and Wimborne Town Reserves.

James added: "It's a bit of a local derby again, but we don't normally get a decent result against them so we need to be at our best.

"But if the squad plays as it has so far, we can get a positive result. The lads are confident and ready."

In terms of team news the squad is still without Owen Peart who is a couple of weeks away from a return, and goalkeeper Nick Hutchings is also sidelined after picking up an injury at the weekend.

The Sports keeper sustained a 'bad chest injury' and will be out for a couple of weeks.

Sam Duncalf comes in to to replace him .

Kick-off at the Camp and Satherley is at 7.45pm on Wednesday, August 21.
