Dorchester got their league season underway with 1-1 at The Avenue against Havant and Waterlooville.

A breath-taking seventh minute strike for Olaf Koszela saw the Magpies take an early lead before Callum Kealy levelled things up.

Goalkeeper Gerard Benfield was forced off with an injury late in the game meaning Will Spetch had to deputise for the final 20 minutes of the match.

Glenn Howes was took charge in the dug out due to Tom Killick being away due to illness '

There were league debuts tforTom Bragg and Wayne Robinson but the club were without last season's top scorer Shaquille Gwengwe who was injured.

The Magpies got off to a bright start with Jordan Ngalo and former Hawk Wes Fogden going close in the opening minutes.

Soon after Koszela opened the scoring with a stunning strike from outside the box which clipped the crossbar on its way past Ben Dudzinski in the Hawks goal.

Around ten minutes later the visitors would find themselves level after Ryan Seager rolled the ball to Kealy who tucked away the chance from inside the area.

A couple of chances would then fall to Luke Pardoe and Spetch, with the later watching his header cleared off the line from a corner.

Koszela then had a free kick from just outside the box which was tipped over the bar from Dudzinski before the break.

As the second half got underway, Ngalo placed a shot wide of the post whilst Wayne Robinson chased onto a ball over the top, but was beaten to it by the Hawks oncoming keeper.

Havant did threaten at the other end, only for a good block from Spetch to deny them before Benfield saved well from close range.

As the game entered the final 10 minutes, Benfield had to be replaced due to an injury and with no recognised keeper on the bench, Ieuan Turner came on with Spetch taking over between the sticks.

Koszela almost doubled his tally for the day and snatched a late winner after turning two Havant defenders but could not find the target.

Luke Robers then had a chance of his own to win it in the 90th minute as he rounded the Havant keeper  but the midfielder's effort was cleared off the line.

Make shift keeper Spetch was called upon deep into the nine minutes of stoppage time as Havant applied pressure, but saved saved well down low..

Next up The Magpies travel to Tiverton Town on Tuesday night.
