Day two of the Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing Competition saw the iQFOiL windsurfers begin their campaigns after a windless first day.

Yesterday (Monday, July 21) was the second day of competition in Marseille for Team GB's Portland-based sailors.

With day three just getting underway, windsurfer Emma Wilson was pleased to have got her quest to upgrade her Tokyo 2020 bronze finally underway yesterday.

The Olympian from Portland impressed by winning the first race of the regatta in the new iQFOIL event and followed it up with second place in race two to top the overall leaderboard with day three about to get underway.

Wilson said: “It was so nice to get on the water, finally, and be foiling around.  I just feel happier out there. I was really happy to come away with the results I did today. It's just a dream. It was so good.

"To win the first race of the Olympic Games, I think that's pretty cool. And I was super happy, and then to back it up with a second. I'm super happy.”

Light winds curtailed the planned five-race schedule for the windsurfers though, with the men’s fleet only managing one race after a false start.

Team GB’s Sam Sills started well, but was overtaken by the chasing pack to finish 21st in his opening race of the series.

Elsewhere, James Peters and Fynn Sterritt advanced to eighth overall in the 49er (Men’s Skiff), banking sixth, fifth and fourth in their three races at the halfway point of their event.

Freya Black and Saskia Tidey had a demoralising start to the second day in the 49erFX (Women’s Skiff), picking up a disqualification for being over the start line early.

A 14th and a 20th in their second and third races of the day saw them going into day three in 21st overall.

Day three of the regatta continues today in Marseille.
