Dorset CC are looking to 'push' up the table with an eye on top spot in the NCAA three-day championship.

The season so far has been hit by bad weather, with the Dorset's first game against Shropshire washed out because of the rain, resulting in a draw.

Next up was a rain affected game against Wiltshire resulting in a second draw.

With just two games to go in the championship, Dorset coach Sid Lawrence is aiming to finish top of the pack in the NCAA West Division 2.

Ahead of his side's match against Wales National County on Sunday, he told Echosport, he said: "We are looking for at least one win and a draw form our remaining two games to see us through.

"The weather has put paid to the last two games and in total we have probably had only about three days of cricket.

"But we have a good blend of youth and experience and we are looking forward to it and get a win and push ourselves to the top of the table."

The side are currently fourth in the championship and Lawrence was buoyed by his team's performance against Wilshire in the last NCAA game, as well as the one-day showcase against Hampshire last weekend.

He added: "We are trying to play positive cricket and the standard of the NCAA is getting better.

"Against Wiltshire we had good momentum, we declared early and put them into bat and we had them at 70-5 overnight, then day two was a wash out and day three we had a late start.

"The wicket just went flat and we did well to bowl them and then we went out and hit a few but the game got away from us.

"Wilshire wanted to draw and set up not to lose.

He continued: "Against Hampshire, the score suggest we got hammered, but if you look at the team they had out, with Kyle Abbott and Muhammad Abbas in the attack, it was probably the strongest first-class side put out.

"It was tough but there were loads of positives to take from it.

"Will Tripcony getting 92 against that bowling attack was great."

Dorset will get their three-day match underway at Ebbw Vale Cricket Club, in Wales, at 11am on Sunday, July 28, with the game concluding on Tuesday, July 30.
