DORCHESTER Town are “unscathed” after an “ideal” 4-0 friendly win over Hamworthy United, manager Tom Killick has reported.

Goals from new signings Wayne Robinson and Sean Wright put Dorchester 2-0 up at half-time, before Trialist C and another new recruit Tom Bragg made it four.

The Magpies also hit the woodwork three times on the night, while Dan Reeks headed against the far post for the Hammers.

And Killick was pleased not only to give every player 45 minutes but to have emerged injury-free from the friendly.

He told Echosport: “I’m glad to come through it unscathed, we seem to be injury-free.

“First half we looked really bright. As can often happen, the second half was a bit scrappy with quite a lot of changes and players that hadn’t really played with each other.

“The level dropped a little bit. Hamworthy were very good in that they never give up and they made it hard for us. They got people behind the ball.

“So, for the first game it was ideal and there were reasonable numbers here. We managed to get minutes into every player in the squad that was available.”

Elaborating on the performance, Killick said: “What we wanted to try and do was move the ball really quickly and try and focus on regaining possession really quickly.

“So, although the players were only playing for 45 minutes, we wanted the tempo to be high and any balls that went out of play, we wanted to get it back in play as quickly as possible.

“So, it was a meaningful 45 minutes and that’s how it turned out.”

Hamworthy, under manager Dan Cann, are working their way back after dropping down to Step 6 this season.

It comes after the Hammers were forced to withdraw from Step 4 last season due to well-documented off-field issues.

And Killick was full of praise for United, adding: “They were really enthusiastic with good ability.

“I feel Hamworthy have had a tough hand in that they were doing so well in the Southern League and they had it taken away from them through no fault of their own.

“They’ve had to restart and they’ve got themselves in Wessex One. It’s just such a good setup, good people here and I really hope they go on to have a good season.”

Dorchester’s next friendly comes at home to Rayners Lane on Saturday (3pm).
