FORMER Weymouth winger Frankie Monk has joined Sholing for the 2024/25 Southern League Premier South season.

Monk exits the Terras after a number of successful loan spells at Step 3 and Step 4 clubs, notably Poole, Bashley and Hamworthy.

However, despite his obvious talent he was not given a regular run in the Weymouth side and leaves the Bob Lucas Stadium having played 16 times, scoring once.

Monk did feature as a substitute in Weymouth’s final three games of the 2023/24 season but only played the full 90 in one match, during the 8-1 loss to Wimborne in the Dorset Senior Cup.

His first-team stats were at odds with a prolific goal involvement record in the under-23s, where he made his name alongside another departed young talent in Matty Burrows.

Speaking to Sholing’s club media, Monk said: “I feel really good, I’m looking forward to being a part of the club and I’m really excited about the project.

“I’ve been in men’s football now for a couple of years and I feel I can add a lot on the pitch and off the pitch. I’m just buzzing to be here.

“I’m a quick, tricky winger. I love to get at my man, get crosses in and shots and link-up play is a big part of my game, so the fans have got a lot to look forward to.

“I’ve got plenty of targets, goals and assists. The main aim for myself is to get Sholing into the play-offs.”

Monk becomes part of the exciting project at Sholing, the Boatmen’s rebuild currently under way with former Havant manager Paul Doswell.

Sholing have hit the headlines in recent weeks, signing up Chelsea and England centre-back Levi Colwill as an associate director to help fund the club’s community projects.

In the week prior to Colwill coming on board, Premier League legend Matt le Tissier also joined the Hampshire side as an associate director.

Monk is the sixth player to leave Weymouth this summer after Dan Roberts, Teddy Howe, Anthony Cheshire, Joel Rollinson and Tyrique Clarke.
