JOSH McQuoid has cooled talk of a possible move into coaching, despite a brief stint as interim assistant manager with Weymouth.

McQuoid, 34, answered the call of caretaker boss Jason Matthews back in March after the exit of previous boss Bobby Wilkinson.

The duo walked the touchline for the 1-1 draw with Bath City and the eventual 1-0 win over arch-rivals Yeovil Town before handing the reins over to present boss Mark Molesley.

Having worked with Molesley at both Weymouth and Aldershot as a player, former Northern Ireland international McQuoid has watched his fellow ex-Bournemouth star’s training methods closely.

But, upon returning to full fitness after his battle with a sarcoma, McQuoid is for now fully concentrated on pre-season with Weymouth.

Asked if he intends to explore the coaching route when his playing days are over, McQuoid insisted he had not yet decided.

He told Echosport: “People ask what I’m going to do and will I go into coaching after football?

“I still don’t know, I’m still focused on playing.

“It was a great honour for me to be called up and asked to help out with the club.

“I obviously knew it was only going to be a short amount of time but I’m just pleased to be back around it and back at the club, so it was a good experience for me.”

Quizzed on the potential to lean on Molesley for coaching advice, McQuoid added: “I’m not too sure if I fancy going into that side of it, but he’s been good with me.

“First and foremost I think he wants me back as a player but he said there’s always a route there if I want to get involved with that side of it and learn off of him.

“Obviously I’ve played under him a few times now, so I know how he works.

“It is interesting seeing what goes on behind the scenes and the work they put in. I don’t think people understand how much work it does take.

“Especially for someone like him, who is detailed and likes everything to be done properly.

“It’s a good learning curve but going forward, if I did want to go into that sort of role, it’s a good pathway with working under him, definitely.”

Weymouth’s first pre-season fixture comes at Hamworthy Recreation on Thursday, July 4 (7.45pm).
