LEFT-BACK Tiago Sa has joined Taunton Town ahead of the 2024/25 Southern League Premier South season.

Sa, who left Dorchester Town mid-season to go travelling, was thought to have a return to the Avenue Stadium ready in waiting.

However, the former Weymouth man has chosen to link up with Dorchester’s Southern League rivals Taunton, joining the rebuild under new boss Richard Luffman following the Somerset side's relegation from the National League South.

Sa racked up a combined 179 appearances for Dorchester and Weymouth, becoming one of the most respected and reliable left-backs at Step 3 level.

After committing to Taunton, Sa told the Peacocks’ official website: “Being a local lad based in Chard, I have always known and seen Taunton to be a big club.

“Where I have over five years’ experience in playing in the Southern League for Weymouth and Dorchester I have witnessed how great the fan base is at the club, as Wordsworth Drive was always a tough place to go to.

“So, I’m more than excited to be a part of it all this coming season especially after speaking with Luffers and hearing his plans for where he wants to take the club with the players he has brought in, it’s an opportunity I just couldn’t say no to.

“With that being said I look forward to seeing everyone in pre-season.”

Commenting on the former Yeovil youth product’s move to Taunton, Luffman added: “Tiago being a local lad and a left-footed full-back gives us great balance and energy which is important.

“A very good Southern League player who I’ve no doubt will go on have a brilliant season for us.”

Sa’s arrival at Wordsworth Drive is significant deal for the Peacocks, who have made a number of impressive captures this summer.

Among their new recruits are midfielder Tommy Smith from Bath, goalkeeper Adam Parkes and midfielder Tom Purrington from Plymouth Parkway plus winger Alfie Moulden from Tiverton.
