DORCHESTER Town are set to miss out on the services of left-backs Ollie Haste and Harvey Hughes, both players set to undertake scholarships abroad.

Haste, 20, was understood to have been considering several offers for his signature and Dorchester made no secret of their desire to sign the defender.

However, he is set to embark on a three-year university scholarship in Miami, ending Dorchester’s hope of extending his stay at the Avenue Stadium.

Haste bagged three goals in 41 games, missing only five fixtures all season for the Magpies during his loan from Yeovil Town.

He was also named in the Southern League team of the year.

Magpies’ boss Tom Killick told Echosport: “We wish him well. He’s got a three-year scholarship to Miami.

“He had a choice of three years in Miami or a year in Dorchester. I can’t be too critical that he’s chosen Miami.

“I’m gutted to lose him but very happy for him that he’s got what seems to be a really good opportunity to embark on a really exciting new chapter.

“I wish him absolutely the best and if he returns in either the short or longer term we’d always welcome him back with open arms.

“He’s been a pleasure to have as a player. He really has been straight down the line, kept me informed about it and been a very decent lad to deal with.”

Former Blackpool full-back Hughes, meanwhile, scored a beautiful free-kick on debut in what proved to be one of only two appearances for Dorchester.

He spent time on dual-registration at Step 5 level with AFC Portchester, scoring once in 17 games, but due to the form of Haste found game time limited despite being in manager Killick’s thoughts.

Hughes has also gone stateside to further hone his craft.
