WEYMOUTH have unveiled striker Malachi Linton as their first new addition of the summer.

The former Yeovil, King’s Lynn and Taunton forward, who began his career with Ipswich Town, becomes the 11th player to commit to Weymouth for next season.

Linton joined Weymouth on loan last season, chalking up five goals and an assist in 11 matches.

There was controversy surrounding the end of his spell, however.

Yeovil Town recalled the forward, who was understood to have picked up a hamstring injury at Aveley.

Weymouth are conversely understood to have made their own assessment of the striker, believing him to have had a chance of returning at the season’s end.

Regardless, Linton will now have the chance to impress again at Weymouth.

His arrival looks inch-perfect for Mark Molesley’s style of play, effectively slotting into the Ben Thomson target role.

In a club statement, Weymouth said: “Malachi is now back fit and has opted for a more permanent tenancy down here on the south coast ahead of the 2024/25 season, under the ‘new look’ Weymouth FC, guided by our manager Mark Molesley.

“His career has taken him on to experience football at a host of levels across the English football pyramid.

“His most notable season was with King’s Lynn in the National League 21/22 season where he composed himself to eight goals in 28 appearances.

“Malachi will now exercise his talent in claret and blue where he swaps the Glovers for the Terras, seeing the light of the south coast as we head into our biggest season yet.”

Linton joins Calvin Brooks, Ezio Touray, Brandon Goodship, Jordon Thompson, Leo Hamblin, Charlie Rowan, Gerard Benfield, captain Tom Bearwish, Keelan O’Connell and Josh McQuoid in committing for 2024/25.
