DORCHESTER Town have secured the services of last season’s top-scorer Shaq Gwengwe for the 2024/25 season.

Gwengwe has now netted 30 goals in 79 Magpies appearances, ending the previous campaign with 17 strikes in 39 matches.

The former Worthing and AFC Totton hitman was rumoured to have attracted interest from other Step 3 clubs but Dorchester have managed to retain their star striker.

Dorchester boss Tom Killick told Echosport: “Shaq was really playing at a high level towards the end of the season when he got a really regular run in the side.

“He’s one I think that can still improve further. I know he wants to play at a higher level and it’s the old story that you hope he can do that with us, that would be the ideal.”

Killick also addressed the retention of Ngalo and Gwengwe as being crucial to his plans for next season.

He added: “To have them both commit to next year is a big positive and relief, because they would have been almost impossible boots to fill.”

Speaking to Dorchester’s media team, Killick added: "Shaq is a player of exceptional talent and someone that we feel has a real connection to the club and the supporters.

“It’s so good to see him show real loyalty in committing to us for another season, as I feel he is already one of the best strikers in the league and has the potential to improve still further."

Gwengwe joins Ngalo plus Jack Dickson, Corby Moore, Will Spetch, Drew Eccott-Young, Olaf Koszela, Luke Pardoe and Luke Roberts in committing to the Avenue Stadium club for next season.
