DORCHESTER Town manager Tom Killick felt the Magpies’ 1-1 draw at Winchester City was a tale of three red cards – one given, two not.

Shaq Gwengwe’s 15th goal of the season gave Dorchester a half-time lead but the Magpies were pegged back by former Magpies forward Olly Balmer, who struck a brilliant free-kick into the far corner.

However, incidents before both goals went against Dorchester as first Corby Moore suffered a nasty head wound in a tackle with Jamie Barron, which Killick felt deserved red.

Moore was substituted after treatment and may require up to 30 stitches for a deep wound on his forehead, of particular concern with the midfielder’s wedding later this summer.

And the second incident involved Will Spetch, who was sent off for an altercation with Ollie Griggs after a heavy challenge between the two.

First lending his thoughts on Spetch’s red card, directly leading to Balmer’s free-kick goal, Killick told Echosport: “I’ve spoken to one of our lads who was right on it.

“He said that (Griggs allegedly) grabbed hold of Will’s face and Will pinned him down to stop him, effectively self-defence.

“If the referee wants to place huge emphasis on it, he has to send both off. It was in keeping with everything that was happening, so it wasn’t a surprise.

“It’s sad where you do get a game that is basically ruined to that extent.”

He added: “We’ll obviously appeal. Everyone can see it’s ridiculous what’s happened with Will.”

And Killick was even angrier with the incident involving Moore. He said: “He’s getting married in the summer. He’s got a gaping wound.

“He’s barely ducked his head and he’s been kicked in the face. It’s a red card, everyone could see.

“Again, the referee has decided not. It’s probably about 30 stitches, but a yellow card.

“The wound is horrendous. I’ve showed the referee a picture. It’s not a bad effort for a yellow card. He’ll be oblivious to it, it won’t affect him at all.

“It’s not being over-dramatic but that affects his life. He’s going to have a horrendous amount of stitches, getting married in the summer, and the referee’s deemed it a yellow card.

“That says it all, really. It’s going to happen two or three times a season, it’s just a shame it’s happened (Saturday).”

The two incidents threatened to spoil what had, up to the 53rd minute, been a professional away performance as Dorchester carried a goal threat while subduing their hosts.

Killick said: “I didn’t think we were in much danger but I didn’t think it was going to be anything other than a set-play that they scored from. (Balmer’s) taken the goal well.

“It’s a good point in the circumstances but just unbelievably frustrating that the game’s panned out the way it has because of the conduct of the referee.”

Dorchester, seven points above the drop zone, tomorrow host Tiverton Town (3pm) as both teams battle for their place in the division next season.
