BUGLERS 31

NEW Body Fitness claimed a surprise 39-31 win over second-placed Buglers in the South & West Dorset League Premier Division.

A slow but competitive start to the game saw the ball travel end-to-end with no goals.

This was soon turned around when New Body opened a three-goal lead.

The second quarter resulted in Buglers digging deep and fighting but New Body stayed ahead with some accurate passing.

There was great support from Buglers’ centre court with WD Maisie Amos capitalising on some of the lost balls from New Body.

Both teams started the third quarter keeping possession and finishing with goals. New Body’s defensive duo Lauren Austin and Jen Lewis made it difficult for Buglers’ shooters to make the most of their opportunities in the circle, securing their lead into the final quarter.

Both teams made changes going into the final quarter with Buglers scoring two goals straight away, but determination from New Body C Kirsty Winning saw New Body fight back valiantly.

And, with accurate shooting from shooters Tia Chaloner and Grace Farrar, New Body roared ahead to win.

JOE NEWTON ELECTRICAL 39

McCARTHY STONE 43

McCARTHY Stone edged Joe Newton Electrical 43-39 to claim their ninth win from 11 games in Division One.

McCarthy GA Ellie Maslen made some amazing decisions ultimately leading to McCarthy taking an early lead.

However, Joe Newton’s perseverance and amazing play between shooting duo Caragh Watt and Camilla Assirati gave them a one-goal advantage at the end of the first quarter.

The scores remained close in the second quarter but McCarthy got their noses in front at half time, while supportive words from Meadow Noble kept Joe Newton playing strong.

Laura Cox came on in the third quarter as McCarthy’s GA and made some amazing shots along with the formidable Mandy Grafton.

However, Joe Newton’s defence remained strong and made every effort to keep the ball from reaching the goal circle, keeping a two-goal lead into the final quarter.

With everything on the line, McCarthy’s experience shone through at the end as they produced a six-goal swing to win the game.

ARTIFEX SIRENS 24

EVOLVED TUNING 41

THERE was another shock result, this time in Division Two, when Evolved Tuning beat former leaders Artifex Sirens 41-24.

Sirens saw injuries hamper their play, with some strong play from Evolved securing a great win.

Evolved started strong, creating space with GD Chrissy Paget. Sirens’ defensive duo Dawn Rendell and Christine Jones worked well, bringing the ball down the court.

In the second quarter, an injury to Sirens’ Jess Rockett was evident and Evolved’s shooters took advantage of this for a 15-8 half-time lead.

Both teams continued to fight in the second half but Sirens started to get tired and plagued by injury they were unable to close the gap, allowing Evolved to extend their lead.

Some great defending from their GK Charlotte Pantry as well as her enthusiasm and encouragement resulted in a valiant win for Evolved.

WJNC WAVES 6

THE WATERLOO 48

THE Waterloo moved above WJNC Waves in the Division Two table with an emphatic 48-6 triumph.

Waterloo started strong with an immediate interception from GD Tracy Evans.

The teams communicated well and Waves had a good pace to their play but strong defence from Waterloo helped them take an early lead.

WD Hollie Davis commanded the centre-court turn over play and converted this to goals.

Waves’ defence made some strong attempts to intercept the ball but Waterloo GS Lauren Mead’s height and accurate shooting helped her side to a handsome 24-5 at half-time.

Going into the second half, Waves’ Willow Charlton and Tegan Martin worked well together against a strong defence.

Waves could not turn lots of clean interceptions into goals with Waterloo extending their lead.

Waterloo were the stronger team with a fast pace down the court and a brilliant win helped them remain strong in the table this season.
