DORCHESTER Town’s 2-1 defeat by Bracknell Town signified an “opportunity missed”, manager Tom Killick believes.

The Magpies were 1-0 up courtesy of Shaq Gwengwe’s ninth goal of the season and caused a handful for Bracknell on the break, with keeper Adam Forster not facing a shot on target in the first half.

However, Joe Grant’s equaliser 59 seconds into the second half and Nana Owusu’s magnificent 25-yard drive, stemming from a defensive error, turned the result in Bracknell’s favour.

It means Dorchester are still waiting to record back-to-back wins this season, following their 4-1 triumph over Basingstoke on Saturday.

Killick told Echosport: “Overall, it’s an opportunity missed having gone in front.

“I’m frustrated, certainly about the goals we conceded second half and certain elements of our play weren’t quite what they needed to be.

“But the positive side I felt there was quite a lot of spirit on display. There was no question about the players’ effort and desire to try and win.

“So, I’ll forgive them to a certain degree when I’m seeing the basic stuff I’ve been demanding.

“But you can’t escape from the fact I felt we had an opportunity against a really good side and got our noses in front to get a much-needed victory.

“So, different emotions. People may say it’s misguided but I’m still very positive about the group.”

Killick also felt the Bracknell goals were preventable, one coming less than a minute after the break and the other courtesy of a defensive lapse.

“Yeah definitely,” Killick said. “And the timing. They’re obviously behind and have discussions at half-time about trying to remedy what they would’ve said was wrong in the first half.

“Then they score a goal so early, it gives teams such a lift in thinking that things are going to turn around.

“I was a little disappointed with our reaction to that. I felt that was when we really needed to show some resilience, gather ourselves again and try and kick on.

“We felt a bit sorry for ourselves for a brief period when the first goal went in, and again when the second went in. That’s when we had to show more fight.

“To be fair to us, towards the end we rediscovered ourselves a bit and had a free-kick in an unbelievably good position.

“Pedro (Borges) had a decent opportunity, so we still could’ve got something from the game.

“It’s always going to be against the good sides that little lapses will cost you, and that’s what happened.”

Dorchester have no game this weekend but return to action on Saturday week at current leaders Salisbury (3pm).
