EXE TRAINING 21
McCARTHY STONE 25
McCARTHY Stone edged Exe Training 25-21 in a very competitive Division One clash.
Exe started strong with exceptional defending from GK Gracie Kingston and GD Bex Hedditch who was fast on the court and a reliable force in the centre court.
McCarthy’s C Martha Usher proved to be the glue for the team and they roared back fiercely coming from four goals down to three ahead as their defensive duo Megan Rowe and Donna Butcher fought for rebounds and turned the ball back down the court fast.
The third quarter saw Exe come back fighting to lead by four with accurate shooting from GA Teresa Perry and C Beth Gore securing the flow of play in the centre court.
A strong battle from both teams in the final quarter saw the play flow well with McCarthy’s Emma Coles creating space and increasing speed. This game was tense until the final whistle but it was McCarthy who maintained their lead to take victory in a great game to watch.
EVOLVED TUNING 12
ZEST 40
ZEST continued their flawless start to the Division Two campaign with a 40-12 win over Evolved Tuning.
The teams were forced into using shorter passes to battle strong winds and Zest crept ahead at the end of the first quarter with a 6-1 lead.
In the second quarter, Zest made some changes resulting in Evolved closing the gap in the first few minutes. Zest then found their feet and scored with great passes into both shooters.
At the other end, Zest GK Lyndsey Pollard secured every rebound, allowing Zest to extend their lead with accurate shooting, finishing 18-6 ahead at half-time.
Zest’s strong defensive duo Lyndsey Pollard and Kristy Aplin, along with their height advantage, dominated the shooting circle holding Evolved’s shooters Summer Donoghue and Amelia Guppy out.
The final quarter remained strong for Zest with C Megan Ling chasing every ball and throwing powerfully into GS Emma Mills.
At the end of a lovely game with great conduct from both teams, Zest emerged successful.
THE WATERLOO 37
WARMER B 16
THE Waterloo secured their first win of the season in Division Two with a 37-16 win over Warmer Home Improvements B.
Excellent shooting from Waterloo pair GS Lauren Mead and GA Lexie Davis set them on the road to success.
The hotly-contested game saw Waterloo’s C Jane Bayley receive a warning about delaying play in the circle, but Waterloo were strong and turned over a number of balls with good interceptions finishing the first quarter 9-3 ahead.
Warmer made changes in the second quarter which saw their strong defensive duo GD Sarah Bryant and GK Sam Rees read the ball and make some timely interceptions.
Sadly, Rees called time due to an injury and was missed on court.
Equally strong was Waterloo’s defence in the circle which saw Warmer’s shooters struggle, allowing Waterloo’s lead to extend to 19-9 at half time.
A much closer third quarter with very few balls turned over from each team saw Warmer score one further goal in this quarter thanks to precise shooting and movement from GA Rubi Moss.
Waterloo came back superbly in the final quarter, only allowing Warmer one goal and gaining a further 13 themselves to finish with a brilliant win.
