DORCHESTER Town must address their stuttering away form if they are to make strides forward as a club, boss Glenn Howes believes.

The Magpies did beat Poole Town 2-1 in August but have lost every other away game since, including Saturday’s 2-0 at Plymouth Parkway in the FA Cup.

Last season, Dorchester won only five times in 21 away trips and had the 15th-best record on their travels of the 22 teams in the Southern League Premier South.

Speaking after losing to Parkway, Howes told Echosport his Magpies team must learn to adapt away from the excellent 3G facilities at the Avenue Stadium.

He said: “I don’t want to look at excuses, it’s an area we need to improve when we’re away.

“This year, we need to improve there as well. They’re different surfaces and you can argue that teams get used to the surfaces they play on.

“But it’s the same for both teams. You’re going to play on a lot worse this year. (Bolitho Park) is a difficult place to come.

“You might have to adjust certain elements of your play and style but we lost because weren’t quite ourselves, me included. We do feel we could’ve done more.”

Dorchester host bottom side Swindon Supermarine in a crunch clash at the Avenue on Saturday (3pm).
