DORCHESTER Sports thrashed Poole Borough 5-0 in the warmth of the Avenue Stadium to preserve their perfect home record in the Dorset Premier League this season.

Ashley James’ men have targeted a vast improvement in home fortunes and have so far beaten Bridport Reserves 4-1 and now the Hornets 5-0.

Most of the damage was done in the first half as Sports went into the break 3-0 up.

Carl Edwards burst down the left-hand side and Dan Sheehy was there to tap home for Sports’ first.

They doubled their advantage when Josh Camp smashed in from 20 yards and added a third goal when Alex Godfrey created the assist for Sheehy, the forward netting a composed finish.

Sheehy was cruelly denied a hat-trick after the break when he ran through on goal and a deflection took the venom out of his effort.

Luckily for Sports, Godfrey was on hand to blast home from all of a yard to make sure of the goal with a defender racing back in an attempt to clear.

Joel Hewitt, who returned from Spain in time to play, made it five when he nodded a long ball into the box, followed up and lashed past the Poole keeper.

Sports missed further chances to extend their lead as Hewitt hit the post and Poole cleared off the line.

Dylan Ellis saw a goal ruled out for offside in the closing stages and there was still time for the ex-Chickerell maestro to hit a deflected shot agonisingly wide.

However, Sports were already home and dry by that stage and James detailed his satisfaction with the result.

“It’s two good victories (at home), we’re scoring decent goals and it’s a clean sheet,” he said.

“It was the perfect afternoon. The lads played well from first whistle to last, it’s a good result.”

He added: “We controlled the ball and the third one just before half-time, it was the perfect half.

“Second half we dominated again and it was a solid performance throughout.”

Sports now move into eighth going into their meeting at leaders Hamworthy United Reserves on Saturday (3pm).

The Hammers have five wins from six games and have netted 18 times in four matches at home.
