WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson insists the Terras “have to change” their poor home form if they are to improve their Vanarama National League South fortunes in 2023/24.

Tomorrow (3pm), the Terras host a side in Dartford who were beaten in the play-offs back in May.

Last season, Weymouth posted the worst home record of all 24 teams in the division, claiming just seven wins from 23 matches and taking only 24 points in all.

However, there were green shoots of recovery in the final four matches at home, as the Terras won three of them to help fuel their remarkable survival mission.

Weymouth have also added two wins at home in pre-season but Wilkinson is under no illusions the Terras must pick up more points at home to avoid a repeat of last term.

He told Echosport: “You have to change that. I’m not silly, if you don’t pick up points in the first three or four games, you’ll start getting people saying it’s the same as last year.

“It’s nothing like last year, last year’s gone. We’re prepping and working extremely hard behind the scenes to put this club back on the map.

“It doesn’t happen overnight but trust the process. We didn’t pick up points on Saturday but you saw a very good team performance.

“That gave me a lot of pleasure and hope to build on in the future. We’re in a totally different place to last year.

“But I understand at the end of the week you need three points to start climbing the table.”

While results were not always forthcoming at the Bob Lucas Stadium last season, Wilkinson argued many performances were worth the admission money.

He said: “It’s been bad the last two years but I was proud of what we did against AFC Wimbledon, Dartford, Bath, we dominated St Albans and then dominated Slough.

“We had some brilliant performances last year. I just felt it’s still everyone looking at the last few years.

“We’ve had a couple of really good performances in pre-season at home. So, when you analyse it, we were doing well.

“I can only go on the last few months (of the season). What we have to change is the midweek games, that’s the one where the stats aren’t good enough.”

Weymouth are understood to be on the verge of making two signings in time for the game.
