WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson will conduct a review of the Terras’ penalty-takers following Tom Bearwish’s saved spot-kick in the 2-1 loss at St Albans City.

Terras’ captain Bearwish graduated to the role last season after previous chosen takers Keelan O’Connell, Brad Ash and Ahkeem Rose missed from 12 yards.

However, Bearwish has now failed to score his previous two spot-kicks, missing the target completely in the 5-0 friendly win over Southampton B before seeing his next penalty saved at St Albans.

It means Weymouth have now missed five penalties in their past 13 attempts during league matches.

Wilkinson told Echosport: “I’ll sit down, discuss it with Tom and the group and decide what we want to do.

“You’ve got to score your penalties. If you go 2-2, you go on and win it because (St Albans) were hanging on for dear life.

“My captain is brilliant and I’m going to support him all the way but it’s still another penalty missed.

“You take a point and you come away buzzing. We’ve got to score those penalties. They scored theirs from a rebound.

“The keeper saves ours and we don’t score, that’s the difference. It’s fine margins.

“We didn’t even follow in and they’ve tapped it in. Then, their keeper saves ours and we don’t follow it in, that’s a little bit frustrating. It’s where I’m talking about managing the game.”

While the missed penalty was undoubtedly a negative, Wilkinson drew many positives from the game including Weymouth’s work-rate and organisation.

“We were fit, organised and working extremely hard as a group,” he said.

“We wore the badge with pride and that’s all you can ask as a manager. I normally go and sulk for 48 hours but I’m working for next week.

“If we play like that we’ll win a lot of games, very positive.”
