WEYMOUTH “controlled the game” during their 2-1 pre-season friendly win at Swindon Supermarine, boss Bobby Wilkinson insists.
The Terras went ahead late in the first half when Dan Roberts opened the scoring, only for George Dowling to equalise seconds later.
Frankie Monk then came off the bench to score the winner seven minutes into the second period.
Weymouth’s second half was not without complications, though, as Nelson Iseguan went off injured and forced the Terras to finish with ten men.
The numerical disadvantage was in Wilkinson’s plans originally but Weymouth suffered a further blow when striker Tommy Stagg sustained a dislocated shoulder.

Despite a negative ending, Wilkinson was pleased with the football on display from the Terras against lower-league Supermarine.
He told Echosport: “It was a really positive performance. As a collective group, the boys were just unbelievable.
“It was two different halves, we played brilliant in the first half and then went down to ten in the second.
“We wanted to work on locking in, keeping our shape and working extra with a man down. It worked really well.
“We controlled the whole game, to be fair. They’re a good footballing side and management team but you could tell (the difference) in the two levels.
“We looked sharper, fitter in that department. It was nice to get more minutes in players that have not been playing.”
He added: “What I’ve made clear is that they’ve got to earn their spot on the opening day, one or two still have niggles but they need to dig in and get through it.
“They’ve got to do everything in their power to make sure they’re ready. We will monitor them and not take a gamble.”
Wilkinson also issued an update on Stagg’s health, explaining: “He was in a lot of agony.
“We don’t know the extent of it yet. He was in hospital, it was a freak one where it popped out. I don’t know how long it will take recovery wise.”
Stagg is understood not to require surgery and was discharged late on Saturday evening.
He is a major doubt for the Terras’ next friendly, at home to Southampton B tomorrow night (7.45pm).
