New Body led 8-6 and then began to pull away in the second quarter, more clinical with their possession, and led by ten goals at half-time.

Warmer battled to gain possession throughout third quarter, but New Body were now dominating at both ends.

Warmer’s defence worked hard to stick tight to their opposing players throughout the second half, but New Body were ruthless and classy, taking a convincing win.

TEAM WAIKIKI 34

ARTIFEX GRIFFINS 34

DIVISION One witnessed a thrilling 34-34 tie between Team Waikiki and Artifex Griffins as the latter sealed the trophy.

After Waikiki’s strong start, Griffins worked hard to intercept the ball but accurate shooting from Waikiki GA Lin Rawcliffe and GS Hayley Rooks gave them a four-goal lead.

Griffins started well in the second quarter, with C Jenni Ayles coming up with tidy interceptions plus accurate shooting from GA Kirsty Holmes, although Waikiki maintained the lead.

Griffins once again started strong with a swift goal to open the third quarter.

Despite Waikiki attacking with speed, Griffins took the lead heading into the final quarter thanks to their accuracy in attack.

There was end-to-end play to start the fourth quarter with pressure mounting as the game neared its end. The score remained tight until late on and was then levelled as the teams could not be separated.

ARTIFEX SIRENS 41

ZEST 28

ARTIFEX Sirens put in an incredible performance to take A 41-28 win over Zest and deny them promotion to Division One.

Sirens set out their competitive intent early in this Division Two clash as they scored the first goal from Zest’s centre pass.

Sirens’ WA Jacqui Brisbane created lovely space throughout the court.

Zest showed patience to work the ball safely into their shooters but Sirens led by one goal.

Zest continued to keep the score close in the second quarter, with GA Nola Smith creating space for herself well in the shooting circle.

For Sirens, GK Christine Jones was able to read play well and win the ball back on multiple occasions, extending their lead to five goals at half-time.

Sirens took great confidence from the first half and continued to press on in the third quarter, pushing their lead out to ten goals.

Despite great pressure from Zest’s defence they could not prevent Sirens from taking the win.

WJNC WAVES 16

JOE NEWTON ELECTRICAL 54

ZEST’S Loss was Joe Newton Electrical’s gain as they sealed the runners-up spot courtesy of a 54-16 win over WJNC Waves.

Waves marked well at the start and came up with several interceptions.

Joe Newton, however, remained calm and focussed which, combined with great shooting from their GA Caragh Watt GS Camilla Assirati, saw them soar into a 12-3 lead.

Joe Newton made multiple changes to their team at quarter, but still managed to work the ball effectively through court.

As the quarter wore on, rushed passes in both teams’ attacks caused a flurry of interceptions.

At half time, it was Waves’ turn to make some player changes.

This proved effective in slowing down Joe Newton’s attack, as Waves played a strong defensive game throughout the third quarter.

These changes continued to benefit Waves in the final quarter, as their attackers were now creating lots of space and options for each other.

But Joe Newton held firm, continued to dominate and booked a healthy victory.
