DORCHESTER Town have completed the signing of centre-back Jack Wright from Bridport.

Wright played 14 times for the Bees last season, scoring twice, also registering a handful of assists.

The versatile central defender can also operate in midfield but has impressed in the heart of the Magpies' defence during pre-season.

He started both the 1-0 loss to Weston-super-Mare and the 1-1 draw with Frome Town at the Avenue Stadium.

Dorchester were tipped off to Wright's potential availability by Keith Emmerson, who retired last season, the duo having both played for the UK Armed Forces side.

Speaking after securing Wright, who has also featured for the Royal Navy team, Dorchester assistant James Wood said the defender had done "exceptionally well" this summer.

Wood told Dorchester's media team: “Jack has been excellent in pre-season, he’s acquitted himself really well, he’s a nice lad and again fits the type of player that we want to bring in.

“He’s young, hungry and wants to give this level of football a really good go, and coming from a service background he’s very fit which is good.

"He’s a northern lad and has moved down to this neck of the woods - we were notified about him by Emmo and obviously playing for Bridport last season it didn’t go unnoticed that he was standing out.

“He has trained really well and in all of the friendlies he has done exceptionally well, so he’s going to be a good signing for us and we’re very pleased to get this one over the line.”

Wright is the 15th confirmed summer signing for the Magpies, who also have a handful of triallists in their group at present.
